Our Universal Guide to Touch Typing explains posture, the home row, finger zones and the exact practice routine that takes a beginner to exam speed. Then follow the 30-day plan, use the interactive lessons to fix weak keys, and move on to full-length exam simulations in the final two weeks.

  1. Week 1: home row and correct finger placement – accuracy only, no speed pressure.
  2. Week 2: top and bottom rows, capitals and punctuation – 5-minute tests.
  3. Week 3: 10-minute tests in your exam’s interface, analysing every mistake.
  4. Week 4: full exam simulations daily with backspace habits and stamina in focus.

Frequently asked questions

Which typing test is best for SSC CHSL practice?

Use the SSC CHSL simulator: it reproduces the TCS iON layout without word highlighting or live speed, and evaluates your answer with full and half mistakes exactly as SSC describes.

Is TypingPrep free?

Yes, every test, lesson and tool is free and needs no registration. The site is supported by unobtrusive ads that never appear over or between tests.

Where are my paragraphs and results stored?

Only in your own browser’s local storage. Nothing is uploaded. You can export a backup file from My Results and import it on another device.

Can I practise Hindi typing in Mangal font?

Yes. Choose Hindi as the language and either type with your own Hindi keyboard or use the built-in Inscript or Remington Gail layouts. The output is standard Unicode (Mangal).

How many words per minute are required for government jobs?

Most central government clerical jobs need 35 wpm English or 30 wpm Hindi in 10 minutes. Railways need 30/25 wpm, CPCT 30/20 wpm, and SSC CGL DEST needs 8,000 key depressions per hour. See the full table on the exams page.
