About the JKSSB Steno/Typist typing test
Steno-typist and typist posts under JKSSB demand higher typing speed than Junior Assistant posts, and stenographers also take a shorthand dictation. Use the same TypingMaster-style JKSSB window to build speed, and use the Steno Dictation page for shorthand practice.

JKSSB Steno/Typist typing test rules
- Typing speed as notified for the post (practice target 40 wpm English).
- Steno Typist: shorthand dictation and transcription as per notification.
- Duration typically 10 minutes for typing.
Always check the latest notification. Recruiting bodies revise speed, duration and error rules from time to time. Information here was last reviewed on 18 October 2026. Official website: jkssb.nic.in. You can change the required speed and error limit in the simulator’s Advanced options.
How the JKSSB Steno/Typist typing test is evaluated
Net words per minute
Gross speed = (key depressions ÷ 5) ÷ minutes for English, or actual words ÷ minutes for Hindi.
Net speed = gross speed − (mistakes ÷ minutes). Full mistakes count as 1 and half mistakes as ½.
You qualify when your net speed reaches the required speed and your error percentage stays within the notified limit.
Worked example: At 40 wpm for 10 minutes you need about 400 correct words. With a 10% error limit, that leaves room for roughly 40 full mistakes.
Read the complete explanation with more examples in How typing speed is calculated in government exams.
