About the District Court typing test

District and civil courts often conduct typing tests at the court premises with a printed passage and Microsoft Word on a standard desktop. The candidate reads from paper and types into a blank document with spell-check switched off. Our MS Word-style simulator shows the passage like a printed sheet beside a Word-like document window so you can rehearse that exact eye movement.

District Court typing test rules

  • Typical speed: 30 wpm English / 25 wpm Hindi in 10 minutes.
  • Often typed in MS Word with auto-correct disabled.
  • Passage may be printed on paper rather than shown on screen.

Always check the latest notification. Recruiting bodies revise speed, duration and error rules from time to time. Information here was last reviewed on 18 October 2026. You can change the required speed and error limit in the simulator’s Advanced options.

How the District Court typing test is evaluated

Net words per minute

Gross speed = (key depressions ÷ 5) ÷ minutes for English, or actual words ÷ minutes for Hindi.

Net speed = gross speed − (mistakes ÷ minutes). Full mistakes count as 1 and half mistakes as ½.

You qualify when your net speed reaches the required speed and your error percentage stays within the notified limit.

Worked example: At 30 wpm for 10 minutes you need about 300 correct words. With a 5% error limit, that leaves room for roughly 15 full mistakes.

Read the complete explanation with more examples in How typing speed is calculated in government exams.
