30-day typing plan for government exams

By TypingPrep Team · Updated 18 October 2026 · 7 min read

This plan takes you from slow, look-at-the-keys typing to exam-ready touch typing in four weeks. Each day uses free tools on this site: Lessons for technique, the typing test for measurement and the exam simulators for realism.

Before you start: take a 1-minute and a 5-minute test and note both scores. Your results are saved automatically in My Results, so you can see your progress at the end.

Week 1 – Foundation: home row and top row (accuracy only)

Goal: Type every letter of the home and top rows without looking. Speed does not matter yet.

DayWhat to doTime
1Read the touch typing guide. Set up chair and desk. Lessons 1–2 (F J, D K). Take one 1-minute test to record your baseline.30 min
2Lessons 2–3 (D K, S L). Repeat each until 2 stars.30 min
3Lessons 4–5 (A ;, G H). Full home-row review.30 min
4Lessons 6–7 (E I, R U).30 min
5Lessons 8–9 (T Y, W O).30 min
6Lesson 10 (Q P). Repeat any lesson below 2 stars.30 min
7Review day: all lessons so far + 2 × 2-minute tests in Blind mode.30 min

Week 2 – Complete keyboard: bottom row, Shift, punctuation, numbers

Goal: Every key on the keyboard by touch; 20+ wpm with 95% accuracy.

DayWhat to doTime
8Lessons 11–12 (V M, C comma).35 min
9Lessons 13–15 (X full stop, Z slash, B N).35 min
10Lesson 16 (capitals with opposite Shift). 3-minute test.35 min
11Lesson 17 (punctuation). 3-minute test.35 min
12Lessons 18–19 (numbers). Numbers & symbols drill on the typing test.35 min
13Lesson 20 (office symbols). Lesson 21 (common words) until 3 stars.35 min
14Review: weakest lessons + 5-minute test. Note your weak keys from the result screen.40 min

Week 3 – Exam passages and stamina

Goal: Hold 30+ wpm for 10 minutes with under 5% errors.

DayWhat to doTime
15Lessons 22–25. One 5-minute test in your exam’s interface.40 min
1610-minute exam simulation. Study every mistake in the comparison view.40 min
17Drill weak keys (10 min) + 10-minute simulation.40 min
18Backspace-disabled 5-minute test + 10-minute simulation.45 min
19Add two previous-year passages in My Paragraphs; type each once.45 min
20Interval training: 5 × (1 min fast, 1 min relaxed) + 10-minute simulation.45 min
21Rest from long tests. Light 15-minute warm-up only.15 min

Week 4 – Full exam simulations

Goal: Clear your exam’s requirement with a 5 wpm buffer, three days in a row.

DayWhat to doTime
22Full simulation at exam duration (10 or 15 min) – exam interface, no live stats.45 min
23Two full simulations with a 10-minute break between them.50 min
24Legal/official vocabulary passages + one full simulation.45 min
25Hindi or second language test if your exam needs it; otherwise numbers-heavy passage.45 min
26Full simulation at the same time of day as your exam slot.45 min
27Two full simulations. Compare with your Day 1 baseline on My Results.50 min
28One relaxed full simulation. Read the exam-day tips.30 min
29Light practice: warm-up drills and one 5-minute test.20 min
30Exam eve: rest your hands. 10 minutes of easy typing only. Sleep early.10 min

After the 30 days

If you are not yet at your target, repeat weeks 3 and 4 – they contain the habits that matter most in the exam. Keep one full exam simulation a day until the exam, and read exam-day tips a few days before your test.

Frequently asked questions

Can I reach 35 wpm in 30 days?

If you already know the keyboard roughly and practise 30–45 minutes daily, yes – many learners go from 15–20 wpm to 35 wpm in a month. Complete beginners may need 6–10 weeks; simply repeat weeks 3 and 4.

What if I miss a day?

Continue from where you stopped. Consistency over the whole month matters more than any single day.
