How the Maharashtra Clerk-Typist typing test is evaluated

Net words per minute

Gross speed = (key depressions ÷ 5) ÷ minutes for English, or actual words ÷ minutes for Hindi.

Net speed = gross speed − (mistakes ÷ minutes). Full mistakes count as 1 and half mistakes as ½.

You qualify when your net speed reaches the required speed and your error percentage stays within the notified limit.

Worked example: At 40 wpm for 10 minutes you need about 400 correct words. With a 5% error limit, that leaves room for roughly 20 full mistakes.

Read the complete explanation with more examples in How typing speed is calculated in government exams.
