2 Minute Typing Test

A two-minute typing test gives a more reliable figure than a one-minute test because short bursts and lucky passages average out. It is long enough to reveal whether you slow down after the first minute.

How to use the 2 minute test

Use it for interval training: alternate two-minute tests at full speed with one minute of rest, five times.

Your result shows gross and net speed, accuracy, key depressions per hour and the railway formula side by side, so you can compare your performance with any exam’s requirement. Every attempt is saved in My Results.

Other durations: 1 minute · 3 minute · 5 minute · 10 minute · 15 minute

Frequently asked questions

How many words should I type in a 2 minute typing test?

At the government-job standard of 35 wpm you need about 70 correct words in 2 minutes; at 30 wpm about 60 words.

Is a 2 minute typing test enough to prepare for exams?

It is useful for warm-ups and progress checks, but you should also practise full 10 or 15 minute tests because exams measure sustained speed.
